What is Individual Psychotherapy?

Individual psychotherapy is a therapeutic process where you work one-on-one with a licensed therapist to explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. The goal of individual therapy is to help you better understand yourself, identify unhealthy patterns, and develop coping mechanisms to manage emotional challenges.

Unlike group therapy or family therapy, individual therapy is personalized to your specific needs. It provides a safe, confidential space to delve deeply into your unique experiences and work through personal issues at your own pace. This focused attention allows for a deeper understanding of underlying emotional struggles, making psychotherapy one of the most effective treatments for various mental health disorders.

At Kingston Wellness Retreat, we offer psychotherapy in Georgia as a core part of our mental health treatment programs, ensuring that each client receives personalized care tailored to their journey.

Types of Individual Psychotherapy We Provide in Georgia

Psychotherapy is not a one-size-fits-all approach. There are several therapeutic modalities that we use at Kingston Wellness Retreat, each designed to address different aspects of mental health. Here are some of the key types of psychotherapy we offer in Georgia:

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

CBT is one of the most well-researched and widely used forms of therapy. It focuses on identifying and challenging negative thought patterns and behaviors that contribute to emotional distress. By changing how you think and behave, CBT can help you manage symptoms of depression, anxiety, and other mental health issues more effectively.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

DBT is a specialized form of therapy that helps individuals regulate their emotions, improve interpersonal relationships, and develop coping mechanisms for intense emotional experiences. Originally developed to treat borderline personality disorder, DBT is now used for a wide range of mental health conditions, including PTSD, eating disorders, and substance use disorders.

Motivational Interviewing

Motivational interviewing is a goal-oriented form of therapy that helps clients explore and resolve ambivalence about making life changes. This therapy is particularly effective for individuals who may be struggling with addiction or other behavioral health issues. By focusing on your intrinsic motivation, motivational interviewing empowers you to take the necessary steps toward meaningful change.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

Mindfulness-based therapy combines traditional psychotherapy with mindfulness practices to help individuals become more present in their daily lives. This approach helps reduce symptoms of stress, anxiety, and depression by teaching clients how to observe their thoughts and feelings without judgment. Mindfulness therapy fosters self-compassion and resilience, which are essential components of long-term emotional well-being.

Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)

Unlike traditional therapy, which often delves into past experiences, SFBT focuses on finding practical solutions to current problems. This therapy encourages clients to set specific, achievable goals and work toward them in a structured and time-limited way. SFBT is especially useful for those who need immediate relief from distressing situations or are seeking a more short-term therapeutic approach.

Our Programs That Offer Individual Therapy Services

At Kingston Wellness Retreat, individual therapy is integrated into several of our comprehensive treatment programs. Each program is designed to meet clients where they are in their mental health journey, providing support in a variety of settings.

Residential

Our residential mental health programs offer 24/7 care in a safe, supportive environment. Clients live on-site at our facility in Georgia and participate in daily individual therapy sessions, along with group therapy and holistic treatments. Residential care is ideal for individuals who need intensive support and structure to manage severe mental health conditions or co-occurring disorders.

Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)

Partial Hospitalization Programming is a step down from residential care but still offers a high level of support. Clients attend therapy at our facility during the day and return home in the evening. Individual therapy is a central component of PHP, allowing clients to continue working on their mental health while gradually transitioning back to everyday life. PHP is suitable for individuals who need ongoing therapeutic intervention but do not require round-the-clock care.

Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

IOP in Georgia is designed for individuals who are stable enough to live independently but still require intensive therapy to maintain their mental health progress. Clients participate in individual therapy multiple times a week, along with group sessions. IOP provides flexibility for those who need structured support but also need to manage other responsibilities, such as work or family.

Outpatient Program (OP)

Our outpatient program is the most flexible option, allowing clients to receive individual therapy on a weekly or biweekly basis while living at home and continuing their normal routines. Outpatient therapy is ideal for individuals who have completed higher levels of care or for those who need less intensive support for managing mild to moderate mental health symptoms.

How Can Psychotherapy Help My Mental Health?

What To Expect In a Psychotherapy Session?

Each psychotherapy session at Kingston Wellness Retreat is tailored to your unique needs. During your first session, your therapist will conduct an assessment to better understand your mental health history, current challenges, and goals for therapy. Together, you and your therapist will develop a treatment plan that outlines the therapeutic approach and goals for future sessions.

Typically, therapy sessions last between 45-60 minutes and can be scheduled weekly or more frequently depending on your needs. Your therapist will use a combination of therapeutic techniques to help you explore your thoughts and feelings, develop coping strategies, and work toward your goals.
